The Millionaire's Nanny Arrangement / Bedded by Blackmail

We first met in high school. He was a rough, taciturn boy, yet everyone looked to him for leadership. I was a plain-Jane honors student with braces. Coincidence brought us back together again. Now, he's a big name in finance—any woman would want him—while I'm a widow who's lost my savings, my job and my house—not to mention I'm pregnant! Ryan was kind enough to hire me as a home tutor for his daughter, but I doubt he has any idea how much his generosity has affected me. (The Millionaire's Nanny Arrangement) Bedded by Blackmail also included.

five for nanny and two for blackmail. 4  4

I really liked reading the Nanny short comic because of how it played out and the characters. We have two high school classmates reuniting after say ten years or so. The hero hires the heroine to nanny his daughter since the little girl spilled the beans about how the heroine is unemployed, recently widowed, broke, and obvious to very everyone is expecting a little bundle of joy fairly soon. Now, I liked seeing how the two have ups and downs with opening up to each other's past, the sadness from spouses (poor hero's wife died in childbirth and the hero's gambling non loving husband died in a yacht incident). I loved how they discuss the little girl who's a child genius that lacks social connections that the heroine helps her with. It's a really sweet novel that I enjoyed very much and would definitely recommend for readers. Bedded by blackmail could have been better because I understand that the heroine comes from an old family with high expectations, she has a job, and deals with egotistical men who view her as both an princess and a piece of meat but the things she said to the hero were pretty low. For example, "can't have a brute like you with no heritage lay a finger on me" was really below the belt for me. To me, it didn't matter if the heroine didn't know of the hero's background that he came from a poor family and his mother was driven over by her mistress in a drunken state who didn't even feel guilty. It would have been better if she had never said that at all. I just didn't like it nor did I like the whole hero using the brother's bank that's in debt as a carrot to lure the heroine into his bed in order to get back at her for those words. He admits later that he put the image of the horrible mistress onto the heroine without getting. I mean, he heard all the things that the men said about her and she must have heard. In the end, she throws a check at him as payment for the nights. Afterwards, she volunteers at an orphanage where it turns out to be the very orphanage that he sent to after his mother died. It's there that she learns the sad truth then meets the hero who feels guilty over his cruel actions towards her. They reconcile and proclaim their love for each other. It's all nice to have a happy ending but I wasn't really satsified with the characters.

5 stars for 1st story! 5  5

Lovely plot of a second chance. I'm not into stories involving widow/widower, but having them both in a tragedy and finding second chance through this lovely situation really does it. Naoko is now my new favorite artist.
