gift of Christmas 5  5

The harlequin was a good Holiday romance with a personal shopper and her client. The heroine's directive attitude and optimism has the hero actually think about his other family members want for Christmas. It brings up the anxiety of finding the perfect gift for them but that's what makes the gift so special with the thought put into it. The heroine's personality has brings the hero back to a time when he could genuinely smile during the Holiday season before his wife and daughter tragically died. How this happens is when his mother who worries for her poor son that locked away his heart, wants him to meet a lady friend. The hero avoids this by lying to the mother about already having a date and enlist the heroine's help to meet the people she is shopping for and use her as a shield against the single ladies. This leads them to spending more and more time together as Christmas gets closer but when the hero recognizes old feelings long buried start to resurface, he pushes the heroine away because he is afraid of feeling them again. The heroine scolds him for wasting his life away and runs off. Later on, the hero opens the Christmas gift that the heroine had for him with a message inside. The notes goes on about how life is short but what matters is not how long we live but how happy we were when we lived. The heroine notes that the wife and daughter must have been very happy to be loved by the hero and use the gift to remind him of the love and laughter he shared with his wife and daughter. It was really very heartwarming and wrenching because her words really struck the hero through the heart. On Christmas day, the heroine gets a surprise visit from the hero who was supposed in be the tropics. He asks the heroine if she would come with him and he opens his heart to her along with a declaration of love and a proposal. I found it sweet and the ending was nice.
