It was a good story if for no other reason than we have a hero who can control himself, and while he is certainly strong and reserved, he’s not arrogant. Professional fits him nicely. Even though the heroine tried to seduce him (she’s desperate to change his mind), he resists, and even later when they love each other (although neither has admitted it) and he’s seen her in dresses, bathrobes and tucked in bed, he maintains a respectful hands off attitude. I really respected that. The story itself was interesting, but not one that encouraged a strong emotional involvement from the reader. I can’t call it ‘light’ reading, however. The hero is a very competent bodyguard, and has very good aim. He’ll kill to protect his charge and does so more than once. The heroine is also a strong character. She’s a proper princess who will marry for her kingdom, but when she learns that marriage will actually be detrimental for the kingdom, she’ll risk it all to expose the traitors. This was a monthly selection so I probably wouldn’t have purchased on my own (royalty is not a preferred genre), but I enjoyed it. It’s worth at least a sale price read if you like a chaste Royal romance.
