GRIFFIN STONE: DUKE OF DECADENCE

Their kiss was the beginning of a contract imbued with seduction…

One day Griffin, the Duke of Rotherham, was in his carriage when he hit a woman who ran out into the street wearing only a negligee. She lost consciousness, so he had no choice but to take her home and nurse her back to health. When she woke up, she was without her memory. Who was this strong, handsome man? More important, who was she? She was unable to come up with even her name, so Griffin began to call her Bella.

I felt the story was quite fine with all that happened. We start off with the hero on a mission to apprehend a supporter of Napoleon. The only problem is the main suspect is the last person the hero suspected and it was back in the home that he fought so hard to stay away since his wife’s death. On the way back, he stumbles across a beaten and amnesic heroine. He takes her under his wing and tries to be a help at a distance. He is so afraid of hurting the heroine because of his wife’s cruel words of calling him a brute and worse. Thankfully, the heroine shows him kindness and gives him confidence that he’s a good guy. During this time, the hero figures out by the heroine’s knowledge that she must be a noble lady. As the heroine learns about the hero’s past what with his wife, he slowly investigates who she is. The heroine slowly starts regaining pieces of her memory. She confesses her love and he rejects it (thanks to his wife committing suicide) but he returns her kiss with a lot of passion that is sadly interrupted by the hero’s friends. They come with the heroine’s true identity and it causes her to regain some of her memories. With the heroine’s cooperation, they are able to narrow down the list of suspects to the heroine’s aunt. They lay a trap and the aunt falls for it. In the whole scuffle, the aunt reveals the hero’s wife was warming her bed and that was quite a surprise. The aunt is sent off and Napoleon’s plan is foiled. After that, the hero confesses his love for the heroine and asks her to marry him. She says yes and we get a happily ever after.
