The heroine is a wedding planner and single mother to her orphaned nephew. She adopted him when her sister died from birth complications. The sister talked about how the baby daddy wanted nothing to do with the baby and gives the name Radford Smythe. The heroine puts his name in the back of her mind till he shows up as the brother of the bride for a wedding she’s planning. The woman has her hackles raised but hidden since she doesn’t want to inform him about his child’s existence nor ruin a job that might ruin her career. Now, the hero is interested in the heroine but can’t make heads or tails of why she’s so hostile to him. He does come to the idea that he might be similar to a bad ex, which she vaguely agrees to. Then he meets the son and shocks the heroine with his statement of loving and wanting kids. The heroine continually pushes him away with all sort of excuses; for example, she says that she’s going to marry another man but that never makes it off the ground. They do have coitus but the heroine goes right back to pushing him out when he sees a picture of the sister and asks who it is. The heroine finally reveals her reason for hating the hero when her son is in the hospital. The man is stunned that he’s the father and asks the heroine to give him some time to clear up this whole misunderstanding. During their separation, the heroine finally goes through her sister’s things and finds her sister’s diary and a picture of another man. As she reads the note on the back of the photo and the entries from the diary, she realizes the boy’s father isn’t the hero and she’s been wrong about the man. Right on cue, the hero takes her to a rehab center that currently housing his cousin. He reveals his cousin and him were always fighting and the cousin used the hero’s name to hook up with women. In their conversation of working things out, the hero confesses that he loves the heroine. He wants to marry her and be the boy’s father. She says yes and we end the tale with their wedding.
